Minecraft has received an exceptionally “heartwarming” update. In Mojang’s first snapshot of 2026, a large number of baby mobs have undergone a comprehensive visual and auditory “cute-ification” upgrade, and the long-awaited craftable Name Tag feature has been implemented.
The focus of this update is eight types of baby farm animals. Their textures have been reshaped to be rounder and fluffier, better matching their adult forms and significantly boosting their cuteness:
- All variants of wolf pups and kittens now debut with sturdier, softer new looks.
- Piglets, lambs, calves, baby rabbits, and baby ocelots all sport new, more detailed appearances.
- The three variants of baby chickens now differ depending on the biome (cold, temperate, warm).
In addition to the visual changes, piglets, wolf pups, and kittens have also gained exclusive baby mob sounds, such as mews, squeaks, and happy yips, enhancing the immersive experience.

Another significant change is that Name Tags can now be crafted. The recipe is “one paper + any metal nugget.” Players can now reliably obtain Name Tags without relying on the randomness of dungeon chests or fishing, allowing them to name their beloved creatures more freely.

Currently, these updates are available in the Java Edition snapshot and the Bedrock Edition beta. With a large number of “cute-ified” new members about to join their bases, players might need to consider expanding their homes.
